How to clean walls
Top tip: always use a soft sponges and brushes to avoid scratching the paintwork
Prepare and protect
Line the bottom of your floor with a fabric covering to collect any dust or drips.
Dust
Cover a mop with a soft fabric cloth and tie using an elastic band. Gently sweep the mop across the walls to collect dust and excess dirt. This will prevent you from smearing dirt at a later stage.
Wipe
Mix a few drops of clear hand soap or clear washing up liquid into a bucket of warm water until bubbles form.
Dampen the sponge, or a soft cloth, in the soapy solution and squeeze to remove excess liquid.
Top tip:
test the damp sponge on a hidden area first to ensure that no paint is removed.
Start at the top of the wall and wipe in circular motions. Ensure that you do not apply too much pressure onto the sponge or cloth.
Remove stains
If you come across a difficult stain then apply a smooth paste of baking soda and water to the stain and leave for a few minutes before wiping.
For stubborn stains spray white vinegar onto a damp cloth to remove discolouration (always patch test this solution first).
Rinse and dry
Pour out the soapy water and replace with warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the water and wring it until it is slightly damp.
Use this cloth to wipe all areas of the wall.
Finish the drying process by opening windows and repeating the process above with a dry cloth or sponge.
