With many disinfectants being abrasive on soft materials, it is important to take caution and do research before disinfecting your floors. We’ve put together a handy set of steps to help you to disinfect your floors, whether they are wooden or carpeted.
At MMCS Commercial Cleaning, we use an
eco-friendly disinfectant
which is also safe for pets. This is sprayed onto hard and soft surfaces which effectively kills dangerous bacteria and leaves a protective film for up to 24 hours. Book your disinfectant fogging service by giving us a ring on

Disinfecting Wooden Floors
First, ensure that the floors are hoovered and cleaned to remove any build-up of dirt and grime. According to the WHO, a disinfectant can be de-activated if used on dirt and debris, therefore it is crucial to make sure that the floor is clean prior to disinfecting.
Then, combine half a cup of white vinegar with around 4 litres of warm water and mix well. Pour the mixture of the floor, ensuring that every part is covered, and use a mop to evenly spread it. Regularly dip your mop into the vinegar mixture.
This will effectively disinfect your floors without the use of harsh bleach or chemicals. Allow the floor to air-dry and open windows to help remove the smell of vinegar.
Disinfecting Carpets
First, hoover the carpet well to remove any dirt or debris. Routine hoovering can help remove bacteria, allergens and dirt which is why it is preferable to hoover little and often, rather than weekly.
Apply an alkaline carpet cleaner to the carpet and let it sit. This will vary depending on the brand of the product, so make sure to read the full instructions.
Rinse the carpet well. You can use a professional carpet cleaning machine, or a towel and a bucket of warm water. Ensure that you remove all traces of the carpet cleaner, as any remainder could cling to dirt and make your carpets dirtier in the short term.
Leave the carpet to fully dry. You could open windows, or turn on the heating to help the speed up the process. Make sure that the carpet is fully dry before moving furniture back, as damp fabric can harbour dangerous germs and bacteria.
